Main site optimization errors

1. Checking the robots.txt file
Robots.txt is a recommendation file for search engine robots, which should indicate what needs to be crawled and what cannot.

2. Check redirects
Redirects are a way to redirect users and search engines from one URL to another. The following redirect options are available:
301 – transfers about 90-99% of the reference weight. This redirect indicates that the page has been moved to a new address and the old URL should be considered obsolete. Most often they use this redirect option to change the domain, redesign, etc.

302 – temporary redirect.

There are other redirects, but they are used less frequently.

3. Work with outgoing links
If the site has spam outgoing links, this may adversely affect the promotion of the site. And vice versa, when there are many outgoing links from one page – this is also not very good.

However, not all outgoing links are bad. Just keep track of the number of outbound links and control their quality. If the site has found a lot of outgoing links that can only harm the site, they need to be urgently deleted.

4. Remove internal links to non-existent pages
It’s important to keep track of such pages, do not forget about them. The site should not have links that lead to 404 pages. The robot follows them in vain and spends in vain the crawling budget (the number of pages that the search bot can bypass for a specific time period). And this time he could spend on scanning more important pages.

5. Checking duplicate pages
Duplicate pages are pages with the same content. What are fraught with duplicates?

– Deteriorating site indexing
– reference weight sprayed
– Changes the relevant page in the search results
– There is a probability of a filter from search engines
– Duplicates need to be quickly identified and removed.

6. Check site speed
Many neglect this parameter, but in vain! Improving the speed of the site, you can not only get advantages in ranking, but also get more trust from users and conversion rate.
